R&D Plus is the first scheme of its kind in the UK, and aims to assist companies demonstrate real potential for global commercial success.

The scheme is open to all large companies located within Scotland or planning to establish a research and development presence in Scotland.

To be eligible for R&D Plus funding, companies must:

• Demonstrate that the research and development represents a significant innovation for the company
• Ensure that the programme will deliver commercial benefits both to the local economy and enable the product/process to compete in a global marketplace
• Show that the project will either create or safeguard jobs
• Demonstrate the strategic importance of the project to the company;
• Demonstrate how the grant will be implemented effectively to ensure long-term capacity building and sustainability to enhance the company's future competitiveness through research and development.
